Royal Beauty

This little succulent always looks out-of-place in the weeds near the lakes and brooks of Rocky Mountain National Park. It’s Redpod Stonecrop — but I prefer the common name Queen’s Crown. The pink top, or crown, looks a lot like clover, and sits atop a stem covered with thick spiky leaves. The male version, King’s Crown, has a dark flower and wider leaves similar to aloe.
