Many people see this flower and assume that it is a rose — there are a lot of wild roses in RMNP. But this one — with 5 petals, each with purple stripes — is a geranium. It’s not at all like the geraniums we buy at florists, except for the leaves which are very similar. And there are no thorns, so you know it is not a rose. We found this one on Cub Lake Trail (we hiked from Bear Lake, to Beirstadt, to Cub — tired!) but you will see these everywhere for several more weeks.
